IMPACT-Webinar: Connecting APAC Hydrogen Trade & Supply Chain
Description:
On March 16, 2022, CGHA held its first webinar in 2022, titled “Connecting APAC Trade & Supply Chain”. This session gathered public and private stakeholders from Australia, Singapore, and Japan to discuss key opportunities and challenges in advancing the hydrogen trade route formation from Pacific to Asia. Speakers include DELWP, the Victorian Government, Department of Energy and Mining, the South Australia Government, CISRO, Wood Mackenzie, and Hunton Andrews Kurth.
Key Snapshots:
1.Victoria & South Australia lead the way through 'learning by doing' – (VIC’s HSEC Project SA’s Partnership with Port of Rotterdam are two of the successful example for technical capacity building);
2.CISRO calls for international partnership for supply chain RD&I, include large-scale, low-cost hydrogen storage, distribution and utilization areas;
3.Trade of hydrogen and carrier derivatives are expected to target deficit markets in Asia. China is forecasted the largest hydrogen market in APAC, whereas Australia be the major export hub;
4.Hydrogen in Singapore features demand side use in ammonia bunker fuel; In Japan, the demand is mainly derived from mobility especially FCV, and co-firing in coal-fired power plants which targeting 20% capability by 2030 and 50% by 2050;
5.Various supply routes are available to place hydrogen and carrier production. In addition to the Asia-Pacific region, North America and Saudi Arabia will become the key regions for future hydrogen development;
6.Solving the lack of standardization of hydrogen (guarantee of origin) and legislative development will be the essential road ahead for Japan and APAC region in terms of hydrogen industry explosion;
